British Light Classics

British Light Classics
Customer Review: Recommended
A great price for a wide selection of British Classics. The pieces are performed and recorded well and make an enjoyable alternative to the more serious classical music that is normally on offer. However if you are looking for full emotional depth in your music then these pieces will seem a bit too light for you.
Customer Review: Soundtrack to a 1950s Childhood
SOUNDTRACK TO A 1950s CHILDHOOD
For people of a certain age there is a collection of melodies that wing them immediately back to their 1950s childhood. These have now been brought together on one CD with issue of “British Light Classics”. One of the most evocative is “Coronation Scot” - a highly successful piece of music that became the signature tune to the BBC private eye series “Paul Temple”, broadcast every afternoon on the Light Programme at 4. Equally recognisable as the signature tune to “Dick Barton - Special Agent” is “Devil’s Gallop” while everyone now knows that “Sleepy Lagoon” is the signature tune to “Desert Island Discs” and “Little Suite” was the signature tune to BBC television’s arts programme, “Monitor”. For industrial strength oldies, “Puffin’ Billy” will be recognized as the tune that opened and closed “Uncle Mac”, BBC radio’s Saturday morning magazine programme for children. It’s a CD only for those who want to recall a calmer, less hurried age of ‘Eagle’ comic, bikes with Sturmey Archer gears, Sunday lunch of roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and “Billy Cotton’s Band Show” on the radio. Either way, it’s a very rare, wonderful and enjoyable trip down memory lane.
