This game is really good cause it gives people who are really into music a chance to create their own music… I am not an enormous music fan but the songs I have made on this game I think are great but the system is complicated and after a few songs you realise thar their aren’t that many riffs so you have to make your own.

This game is great. You can make seriously good music, although after a while the riffs in the riff library run out and you have to start making your own. Also, the sampling from CDs often doesn’t work out and it eats memory up like nobodies business. Overall though, these are tiny gripes. It is my favourite game, even if aspects of it are slightly complicated.

Take a break from those cookie-cutter fantasy games where your spell-casting hero travels through strange lands to defeat the evil king. With the third installment in the popular MTV Music Generator music-making series, PS2 and Xbox owners can swap their magic for a mixer and turn their game console into a recording studio. This Is the Remix lets budding producers and DJs create and edit original music tracks pooled from more than 4,000 samples stored on the DVD, as well as remix 10 current hip-hop, reggae, electronica, house and rap songs. Highlights include OutKast’s The Way You Move, Snoop Dogg’s From Tha Chuuuch to da Palace (it’s so shizlicious) and Sean Paul’s Get Busy. Users start with the song’s radio edit, extended mix, instrumental or a cappella track. Then, by using the controller to toggle switches, slide bars and import effects, DJs can create custom jams and save them for future playback. Hundreds of samples — conveniently in the same key and tempo — exist for each song. The studio includes limitless options for adding riffs, drum beats, bass lines, vocals and effects. And for the first time in the Music Generator series’ history, users can import samples ripped from their own music CD collection. This option takes some practice and skill, but thankfully the many tutorials (and comprehensive manual) explain how to do it. Because it’s a virtual recording studio MTV Music Generator 3 isn’t so visually stimulating, but the interface is intuitive and easy to navigate. Friends who stroll by the television screen — especially those who dig this kind of music — will undoubtedly take a seat and be amazed at what can be done to create rhythmic loops and add layers onto them.
