Customer Review: It Does Exactly What It Says On The Case (3.5 stars)
Chart hits are the order of the day once again as Now reaches no. 59 with a promise of 43 top chart hits, hmm well, Intenso Project is a rather debatable choice but as the single was released after NTWICM 59 (and im in a charitable mood) i shall give it the benefit of the doubt - music can be an acquired taste sometimes. CD1 brings us no.1 from the likes of Natasha Bedingfield, Eric Prydz with Call On Me (and no, the cd does NOT come included with the music video), Robbie Williams and (shudder) Busted and Mcfly with Thunderbirds Are Go and Obviously respectively. Just leave out the rancid Darius, V, Ronan Keating, Rachel Stevens and the unforgivable album closer from Duncan and Keedie and you’re onto a winner, here. Also, extra kudos to Ashley Abram and co. are necessary for the inclusion of The Libertines, Embrace, Hoobastank and underrated pop gem What You’re Made Of by Lucie Silvas (well, I seemed to think so, anyway). The (shockingly by Now standards) rather new-ish Nothing Hurts Like Love by Daniel Bedingfield opens up proceedings on the second disc, with Jamelia’s Stop, R. Kelly’s Happy People, Nelly’s My Place, Black Eyed Peas and Kelis swiftly following as the album moves into slick RnB territory (although, rather predictably, we start moving onto the duds - in this particualar reviewer’s opinion, of course). 3 Of A Kind (understandable addition in all honesty), Khia (what, didn’t this come out like three years ago??), Joss Stone (Sorry, my fellow stoners -ie fans), Sugababes and The Pirates (no Mario Winans?) may have been huge but, for me, they bring the overall quality of the album down a couple notches but hey I can’t be overly critical - theyve been peddling these albums before i was even born so they must be doing something right. Top marks, though, for Michael Gray’s The Weekend, Mousse T’s Is It Cos I’m Cool, Houston’s I Like That (though being used to promote Mcdonalds? come on now) and Deep Dish’s Flashdance which make the album a worthy purchase (after long debating) so in the words of Danzel, (horrible pun coming up here so you’ve been warned) Pump It Up.

Customer Review: This CD rocks
This was the first Now CD that I was fortunate enough to come across and it still remains my favorite CD. Looking back and hearing the songs now is a perfect way to remember days gone by. Some of the most popular tunes are on these discs, and they are compiled perfectly. I’d have to say that these CD’s are ones that can be listened to without skipping tracks.

If it’s dream music, it’s a very bad one indeed.
Fab Gear Classic Flower Power Pop From The Summer Of Love Customer Review: Granny takes a trip to get some Fab Gear
The Summer of Love and The Kings Road is awash with the latest fashions. The Streets of London are alive to the Sounds of Flower Pop Pop Music. “Blow up” is just about to be released uncensored and everything is looking groovy. This excellent double C.D. Set compiled by Pete Lawrence of The Big Chill captures perfectly the mood of the times. There is enough great music on both these discs to satisfy anyones interest in the 40th Anniversary of that Golden era. Some songs will be more than familiar, others much less so and that`s what makes this collection such a complete box of delights.
My initial inclination was to buy this set for Mason William`s “Classical Gas” which was an old fave 45rpm. However, there is much more to this than meets the eye at first sight. For instance, for me, the undiscovered gem “Angel of the morning” by Merrilee Rush & The Turnabouts is another example of the diversity of this compilation. The sounds tend to favour melodies and hamonies rather than Psychedelia from the period, although there are some Psychedelic gems, such as “My white Bicycle” and “Incense & Peppermints” thrown in for good measure. This is in essence very happy upbeat music and makes you feel good to have been around at the time. However, if you weren`t that lucky, you can relive the moments with this fine revival collection. There really was “Something in the air” at that time.

Pop Idol - The Big Band Album
Considering the long, pain-staking process in selecting the nation’s Pop Idol it seems a little impetuous to rush release the finished product with The Big Band Album–but at least public interest is still riding high. Will and Gareth’s singles were quick and simple with record-breaking results but listening to this release you can’t help wondering if they should have spent a little more time rehearsing and recording it.
Thirteen tracks of big band standards feature the 10 finalists of the show each doing their bit. Will, Gareth and Zoe each get an extra slice of the pie and lucky for them as Will’s performance on “Beyond the Sea” pales in comparison to his second effort just as Zoe’s fantastic “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” trounces her slightly disappointing “Get Happy”.
For a cynic it would be easy to knock the pop idols as it’s almost a national sport but they all prove they can sing with Darius, Aaron and Hayley turning in some great performances but for the most part they have been let down by poor production and the recording standards of a karaoke machine. Robbie Williams came under a lot of criticism for what people saw as his butchering of classic numbers on Swing When You’re Winning but Pop Idol’s Big Band Album is way short of the mark set by Robbie showing that you can’t rush a project of this size and expect the same results. –David Trueman
Customer Review: It’s GGGreat!
This is a must for any Pop Idol fan. The final ten rise to the challenge with almost faultless consequences. Although I do admire Zoe’s voice I would have prefered more Darius! The album contains all the magic from the show. I only wish that they would have released the album before the pop idol tour, so I would have been able to sing along to more songs at Wembley!!
Customer Review: Girl power
Now, I sadly admit I enjoyed ‘Pop Idol’, particularly the early stages. But, it’s clear that the phone lines must have been clogged by pre-pubescent girls calling in as anyone without cloth in their ears realises Hayley and Zoe should’ve made the last two. Gareth’s voice is as weak as a new-born lamb as shown on his feeble rendition of ‘Mack the Knife’. Dear old Louis must be turning at 500 rpm gravewise. The solo efforts by the girls are considerably better than those by the boys, as was clear on PI hence the 2 stars. I’d also give another halfstar for the absence of Will Young’s destruction of one of the great classics to come out of the 60’s namely ‘Light my fire’.
