Customer Review: Up The Irons!
One of the better live acts that you can see in the Heavy Metal genre. This is an excellent quality DVD with very good DTS surround sound and excellent picture quality. I’m not sure why an earlier reviewer thought that the sound quality wasn’t very good and that the bass was weak, I also have a good quality 5.1 surround set up and find the overall quality very good, I would suggest a better surround amp :-)

I like this DVD as it has some of their newer stuff which I am more of a fan of. ‘Brave New World’ and ‘Blood Brothers’ the stand out songs IMO. There are a few too many cuts but it doesn’t spoil the overall enjoyment for me.

The extras are also worth a watch too. As with most Iron Maiden products, this is good value for money.

J.Petrucci-Rock Discipline [2002]
Customer Review: A well worth buy
This DVD comes from (in my opinion) one of the best guitar players in this age, John Petrucci. For those who dont know he is, and should, he comes from the progressive rock band ‘Dream Theater’. This DVD is fantastic for all levels of guitar players from beginners to masterclass! From simple warm-up techniques to complex sweep appeggio’s and complete shredding, although there is plenty of melodic touches to pick up as well. This DVD will influence to get better at guitar, so this is a must buy for anyone who wants to progress with their guitar playing, buy it!

Pure Rock Fury

Pure Rock Fury
Fashion might be a fickle beast, but it’s very quickly clear that West Virginian stoner quartet Clutch care little for courting it. In fact, by the vicious, gutteral and defiantly retrogressive sound of their fourth album Pure Rock Fury, they’re far more likely to be found hunting down the tastemakers with a lasso and a double-barreled shotgun. Still, this time, it seems that fashion may have caught up with them. Recorded in a year defined best by the narco-pop grizzle of the Black Crowes and the canyon-deep bass grooves of Queens Of The Stone Age, these thirteen tracks of shrieking, strangulated fuzz guitar and juggernaut-heavy riffing sound as vital as the title suggests; think Led Zeppelin’s II, rewired through the monolithic speaker-stacks of desert-rock innovators Kyuss. That Pure Rock Fury should seem such a landmark is certainly in part due to the line-up of eager special guests: Scott Weinrich, guitar hero for stoner-rock heavy hitters Spirit Caravan, and Maryland’s retro-delic guitar mystics Sixty Watt Shaman. But when Clutch hit their stride, it’s clearly their game alone; the snatches of live performance that scatter Pure Rock Fury culminate in the staggering shape of 1995 classic “Spacegrass”, a reverie of shamanic hippy-talk and frenzied, shrieking drug psychosis. This will surely elevate Clutch to the stoner superleague. –Louis Pattison

500 Songs that Shaped Rock and Roll

Dutty Rock [Explicit Lyrics]

Dutty Rock [Explicit Lyrics]
In the UK at least, Sean Paul is being touted a more authentic alternative to Shaggy, delivering an accessible dance-hall crossover for the masses. His second album Dutty Rock opens with a light-hearted skit to break the ice but falls flat lacking the comic self-parody of Shaggy which is probably a good thing.

Once Paul announces “This is the real dutty rock” any notion of being the new clown prince of reggae disappears and you are left with the brooding two-step of “Shout (Street Respect)” followed closely by the standout “Gimme The Light”. Of the whopping 22 tracks on here there is a broad range of styles to compliment the dance-hall vibe from catchy pop such as “Like Glue” or the “Uptown Ranking” homage “I’m Still In Love” to east coast hip-hop going as far to sample the Eric B & Rakim classic “I Know You Got Soul” on “International”. There are many guests but most notable are Busta Rhymes doing some pseudo-ragga chatting on the reworking of “Gimme The Light” plus this year’s must have accessory, The Neptunes, producing “Bubble” which promises so much but never really gets going.

The only drawback to Dutty Rock is the amount of tracks–none of which are that bad but some are more filler than others. –Georgina Collins

Customer Review: An amazing album from the prince of Dance Hall!,
Sean Paul’s “Dutty Rock” is one of the great dance hall albums that are out there. He continuously gave out hits throughout this whole album. Some of the end songs aren’t as powerful as the songs at the beginning such as “Baby Boy”, “Gimme The Light”, “Get Busy”, and “Concrete”. His album is very good and definitely worth the cost. Sean Paul has outdone himself on his 2nd album which defiantly places him on the charts.

Sean Paul is Prince of the Dancehall because Beenie man has the “king” title already. This music originates from way back before rap/hip-hop even got started. Sean Paul had thrown some new flavor in there and makes a bangin’ dance album. Some people don’t like it because they can’t understand him, but whose fault is that? People should realize that this music is rich in culture and if he sang it so that everyone could understand it he would be denying the heritage that made the music possible.

Probably this will help you out: almost every song on his album fades out with Sean still singing or the music still playing. I suggest looking up lyrics if you’re really interested… or I wouldn’t bother… Sean’s voice is amazing and is fairly fun to listen to… most the music is upbeat… so if your looking for the sounds then this album is for you. Keep on bumpin’ Sean Paul, and keep confusing the ignorant!

Customer Review: something very special hear
Dutty Rock is one of the finest albums in my (very large) collection. It mixes hip-hop, reggae, dancehall and r&b to make an amazing album. Every song has “HIT” written all over it. His 1st album was excellent but this broke the barriers of music making.

SUPERB. Recommended. BUY IT!

Classic Meets Rock

Classic Meets Rock
Customer Review: Trully excellent live album!
Barclay James Harvest split in 1997 and subsequently the two main songwriters in the band, John Lees and Les Holroyd, each continued working with their own version of the band. Up until this recent release of Les’s version, each had issued one studio album and one live recording. However, Les’s band has been significantly more active, regularly touring extensively in Germany and other countries in Europe, where the band`s core fan base has been situated since the late 70s. With this hard work, Les’s version of BJH have themselves established significant popular support on the continent, so their confidence has grown, to the extent that they have recently taken that most daring of steps for a rock band - touring with a full orchestra. For those of us not lucky enough to have witnessed one of the concerts live, the band have now released a DVD and CD to record the tour.

This is an excellent rock album. The warmth of the large audience comes over well and the sound is excellent, the orchestra integrating effectively with the band, enhancing the music, and Les’s singing voice holds up remarkably well given the punishing tour schedule the band has been undertaking. It’s easy to see that this band has played often together, they play well and do full justice to the excellent songs, drawn from BJH’s entire history. Mike Byron-Hehir puts in some storming guitar work, including on old classics, that will please all Barclay James Harvest fans

It is a strong set! From 1971`s “Mocking Bird” to 2002’s “January Morning” and “That Was Then This Is Now”, Les and BJH take us on a journey via some time honoured songs like “Rock `n’ Roll Star”, “Berlin”, “Life is for Living”, “Play to the World”, “Hymn” and others. The band injects pace into the show at all the right moments and you are left wanting more at the end of the two hours.

If you are a fan of the band but with a leaning towards the John Lees/Woolly Wolstenholme side of the split, I would still urge you to give this CD, or the counterpart DVD, a go: you won’t be disappointed in either the quality of the songs or in Mike Byron-Hehir’s guitar work - this really is a strong performance all round.

Rock DJ: Unedited [DVD]

Rock DJ: Unedited [DVD]
Featuring a full frontal strip by Robbie–albeit one in which the Williams privates are blurred out–and more flying body parts than is customary in your average pop video rock DJ was clearly made with offence in mind. And cause offence it did, at least to puritan-minded TV schedulers most of whom declined to show the promo which, in turn, enhanced immeasurably the chart success of this actually rather nifty Frankie Goes To Hollywood-esque slice of dance-rock. Now those who missed Robbie removing not just his clothes but his skin and flesh in one of those model-filled futuristic bars that only ever seem to exist in videos can enjoy the sight at their leisure courtesy of this DVD. Also included is a brief but nonetheless entertaining making-of documentary which finds the ex-Take That member chatting up one of his leggy co-stars by asking her how the crochet lessons are going. Sadly, history–or at least this documentary–does not record whether this rather individual approach proved successful. –Clark Collis

Customer Review: Pathetic
The most overrated, talentless singer in the world - with the possible exception of Kylie Minogue. This song is attrocious, and is a rip off of the dire Ian Dury dirge Reasons to be Cheerful, so much so I expect Williams to sing “porridge oats” at any moment. Pathetic plagiarism, and not even plagiarism of a decent song.

Customer Review: Blobby Williams
Oh dear oh dear, the most overated, overpayed pop puppet in Britain (possibly the world) has been unleashed on DVD format. Some might spring to his defence and say “the man’s a natural entertainer”. This may be the case, in the broadest sense of the word, but there is one vital ingridient lacking that is original, imaginative music. Fair enough the “tunes” may be catchy to some but to anyone with an elementary understanding of music they just seem dull and flat. As for the lyrics, they could have been written by a ten year old german shepard. So in closing, you will enjoy this DVD if your taste in music is on par with that of a rotting carcas of a beached bottle nosed dolphin.
