Destroy Rock & Roll

Destroy Rock & Roll
Customer Review: Brilliant.
one of my favourite albums. some great tunes, easy listening and some to really get you going. a great buy.

Customer Review: Still alive and kicking…
As a dedicated rock fan I normally have the same desire to seek out new and cutting edge dance and electronica as I do to contract syphilis.

Nevertheless, having heard Mylo's offering on the second Warchild album, I thought I'd give this a go. And I enjoy it. I find it fresh, intelligent and listenable. Especially the title track, though he chose a bad year to assault rock music, which is stronger in 2005 than ever before.

In conclusion, well worth a listen, no matter what you thought your tastes where.

Rock ‘n’ Roll Juvenile: Remastered

Rock ‘n’ Roll Juvenile: Remastered
Customer Review: ROCK ‘N’ ROLL JUVENILE - RE-ISSUE OF SIR CLIFF’s FAVOURITE
Cliff Richard has gone on record as naming this 1979 album as a personal favourite. Co-produced by Terry Britten (who wrote ‘Devil Woman’)and Cliff, the tracks on this album remain as ageless as the man himself. It opens with a blistering rock opus,”Monday Thru’ Friday” in which Cliff tell’s us that the only day that matters is Saturday (”it’s rock ‘n’ roll time”!).The 2nd track, “Doing Fine” is slower but has a great guitar rift. Track 3 is a “standout track”; it tells the story of 2 survivors in a post-apocalyptical world defined by the title “Cities May Fall” - it’s a funky sound with atmosphere. Track 4, “You Know That I Love You”, is a song that seems to have it’s roots in the deep south,USA. All 4 tracks were authored by Britten. “My Luck Won’t Change”, co-written by Britten and B.A.Robertson, is another “standout” track (and one of Cliff’s personal favourites) which tells a story, has a great rhythmical beat with a hint of ‘punk’ thrown in for good measure! Cliff penned the title track 6, “Rock ‘N’ Roll Juvenile” and it’s another blistering rock song in which Cliff declares his love of both R&R and Jesus and reminds us of his musical roots. “Sci-Fi”, track 7, is in a class of it’s own and we discover Cliff has another love; brilliant with outstanding special effects. Track 8, “Fallin In Love” is a good attempt to recreate a late 50’s love song. What can I tell you about “Carrie”, track 9? Another song in a class of it’s own which was lifted from the album to become a very successful single. Tracks 10/11, “Hot Shot” and “Language Of Love” are both great rock numbers co-written by Britten/Robertson (who also penned the previous 3 tracks). Listen carefully to the end of track 11 for that hint of “punk”! “We Don’t Talk Anymore”, the final track, was not originally intended for inclusion on this album. Penned by Alan Tarney, it was released as a single in the summer of ‘79. It climbed to the top of the charts and became Cliff’s most successful single. No surprise, then, that the record company, EMI UK, wanted the track added to the album in a blatant attempt to move as much vinyl as possible! Apparently, it took some effort to persuade Cliff to agree! ‘Rock ‘N’ Roll Juvenile’ peaked at number 3 and had a 22-week stay on the album charts to become one of Cliff’s best selling albums from the 70’s. It’s re-issue on CD (remastered and re-packaged)with an additional bonus track, “Walking In The Light” will be very welcome and could attract a new generation of Cliff fans.

Customer Review: Back-to-basics Cliff fires enthusiasm
Right from “Monday thru’ Friday” you know this is a back-to-basics Cliff. 10 of the 12 tracks are written by Terry Britten, who used to be in Cliff’s backing band in the early 70’s, 1 by Cliff and 1 by Alan Tarney (the magnificent “We don’t talk anymore”). This is Britten’s finest hour. “Cities may fall”, “Doing fine”, “My luck won’t change” and “Carrie” are superb. Cliff penned the title track, which drives along at break-neck speed and the entire album is, as Cliff says on the inner sleeve ‘energy packed’. Side One is the stronger. Had Side two been slightly stronger, this album would have been No.1 in album charts(actually No.3). The cover is brilliant, the songs great and the overall enthusiasm generated from between the grooves still shines through. THIS is the sort of album I wish Cliff would do EVERY TIME he goes into the studio. This is one of Cliff’s personal favourite albums.

Joe Strummer - Let’s Rock Again

Joe Strummer - Let’s Rock Again
Customer Review: Great Film
Of all the Dvds I have watched about Joe this is by far the best capturing the man and his music at there best. Buy it youwon’t regret it.

Customer Review: The Greatness of Joe Strummer.
“Let’s Rock Again” is worth watching on several levels. First, the video provides a first-hand account of the formation of Joe Strummer’s final project, The Mescaleros. From the lips of Joe and the rest of the band, you learn the “where”, “why” and “how” of Joe Strummer and The Mescaleros. For those who never had the opportunity to witness the band live, the video provides some excellent concert footage that is testimony both to Joe’s own musical brilliance as well as the musicianship of his supporting cast.

Perhaps more meaningful is the insight to the man himself that the video provides. What comes through most is Joe’s essential honesty, integrity and humility. Despite Joe Strummer’s status as the frontman for one of Rock’s most influential and enduring bands, Joe never lost sight of the work it took to obtain that status nor the fleeting nature of fame.

In discussing the genesis of The Mescaleros project, Joe talks about the rise and fall of The Clash as well as the rise, fall and rebirth of Joe Strummer. The common theme is Joe’s dedication to the music and to his fans. This is most evident in the video as Joe literally ‘pounds the pavement’ in Atlantic City to promote his new band, meeting people on the street, handing out flyers true to the spirit of the revolutionary that Joe always was.

In a world with an excess of poseurs and increasingly short on originality, this video pays tribute to a legendary peformer and reminds us of why Joe Strummer remains sadly missed. Rest in peace, Joe.

The Golden Age of American Rock ‘n’ Roll Vol.10

The Golden Age of American Rock ‘n’ Roll Vol.10
Customer Review: Together with Vol 6 the best selection of them all!
Of the complete series of the Golden Age of American Rock & Roll

(11 Volumes) this one (Vol. 10) and the Vol. 6 are without any doubt

the best of the whole series. If you like the real “raw” authentic

Rock and Roll stuff (not rockabilly) this tenth issue holds a lot

of it. Most of these real rockers were unfamiliar to me and were

probably never issued in Western Europe before although some may

have been released in the UK. Here we have the female Elvis back in

1956 with the incredible rockin’ Will You Williym, You Can Have Her-

Roy Hamilton; Believe Me-Royal Teens (yeah, those who sang Short

Shorts); the original Mona Lisa by Carl Mann; Gilee- Sony Spencer;

We Told You Not To Marry by Titus Turner which is an answer song to

Lloyd Price’s I’m Gonna Get Married; Why-The Cues; Sugaree- Rusty

York and the first success by Clarence “Frogman” Henry Ain’t Got No

Home an incredible rocker that makes you jump around and play over

and over. I just saw Clarence sing this song again in You Tube in 2004

almost 50 years later. It just sounds the same…! Half of the 30

songs are fast rockers so if you’re a fan of the “real” stuff, don’t

let this chance pass by. Remember Vol. 6 is similar and as wonderful

as this one.

Elizabethan Songs and Consort Music

Elizabethan Songs and Consort Music
Customer Review: Flawless
I have been buying Medieval music CDs for the past few years, and I can safely say that this is the best one so far. On one hand, Some may say all the tunes sound samey, but on the other hand, all the tracks flow so smoothly from the beginning to the end. The tone of the CD is so warmly serene.

If you are interested in this genre, please do give this CD a try.

Customer Review: Elizabethan Songs & Consort Music
This is superb album, very good for relaxing to. The consort of viols with the mezzo soprano makes for a good blend and pathos in the sadder songs, particularly track 4 by Anon “O death, rock me asleep. Very poignant. Looking to buy more of the same. Recording quality is excellent and good price on the Naxos label.

Dad Rocks

Dad Rocks
Customer Review: Got Them All But It’s The Thought That Counts
So what if I already have all these tracks.

My 8 year old daughter bought this for me, the track listing is excellent and we rock together.

It’s a Dad and child thing and I don’t care about the artistic merits.

Just enjoy the music with whoever bought it for you.

Customer Review: SHAME ON YOU
Shame on you all if you have that little imagination, and that little love for your own father that you’d inflict this upon him. Okay, there is some good, and even some great music on this double album, but your dad, if he likes this style of music AT ALL should already have it all, probably on vinyl AND CD - ALREADY.
Imagine his disapointment when he finds this on the breakfast tray next to his burnt toast. His smile will be insincere and his ‘thank you’ will be forced through gritted teeth. Just get him some chocolates.

Rock in a Hard Place

Rock in a Hard Place
Customer Review: Aerosmith masterpiece
Forget what everyone else is saying. This is a great album, it may not be the most popular with the (conservative) fans but for me and I’m sure many others this is a career high- Tyler said himself this was one of the best.

After ‘draw the line’ it is probably the most experimental/progressive album they made, ok it doesn’t have Joe Perry what we have with is less bluesy more “straight” hard rock sound on ‘Jailbait’ and ‘Lightning strikes’; cool Jazzy bar rock hybrid sound in Julie London cover ‘Cry me a River’-very convincing one of my favorite Aerosmith recordings; ‘Joanie’s Butterfly’ is one of the highlight’s with it’s folksy sound and Zeppelin like lyric. ‘Push comes to shove’ finishes the album in style, well Tyler sound’s like he’s going to collapse or explode when he spits all over the microphone- the essence of Rock’n'Roll.

Customer Review: Hard Rock in a Different Place
A wonderfully hard rockin’ Aerosmith album that fails to suffer from the temporary departure of Perry and Whitford, in fact the new blood raises the ante for the band and this remains a great Aerosmith album to this day. Perry is oft quoted as wishing he’d been there to co-write the fabulous Lightning Strikes. Me thinks he was more than a little peeved at the competence of his replacement! As a great Perry fan (Aerosmith and solo) I still find this album chock full of the usual swagger, yanky slang and searing guitar that the band’s fans adore.
